Intersection of ideas
rarely leads to severe conflict,
while intrusion of values
provokes confrontation.
Most humans prefer peace and quiet.
Some are greedy, ambitious,
inflict their will on others
poisoning the society
that allows the good life.

Thwarted Hordes

Cities were formed
for protection
against marauders,
prototype walls
built to prevent
nomadic horsemen
form riding down
defenseless farmers.
It took a while
for nomads to realize
they couldn’t go where they wanted
and though still feared
were sometimes manageable.

Park Riff

In the park
the tourists come and go
spending the Euro,
eyes filled with delight
at the frequent sight
of purchasable goods.
