Hello America.

It’s October 9 as I write this. Happy “Day some European guy inadvertently invented illegal immigration by discovering a land inhabited already inhabited by people.”

“Day that Europeans slaughtered several indigenous people and milked them of all their resources.”

“Day that indigenous people accepted Europeans on to their land and were repaid via rape and murder followed by a now strict stance on who we let into this country as if we fear karma.”

Yeah is doesn’t sound too great when you phrase it that way does it?

When you’re sitting at home celebrating another day off, just remember what this day really stands for.

We didn’t discover America; America was inhabited for thousands of years and. Our ancestors stole that land and claimed it as theirs. Coming across the land mass was a pure accident as the result of limited knowledge of geography.

The original intent was to travel to India with full knowledge that the Earth was round. No one knew at the time that there was another land mass on the other side of the world.

This isn’t a day of celebration. It should be a day of reflection for where we went wrong as a people.

For a country that invented illegal immigration, we unfortunately have one of the toughest immigration laws in existence, and for what? To protect ourselves from what our ancestors did to the original inhabitants of this country years ago?

This should never be a day of celebration because there is nothing happy about this day.

Stay classy…
