The Filth and the Fury
I was drunk when the food disappeared, the kitchen, I felt, remained
empty, the water–rain down my throat, I forgot to shut off the faucet.
I was dry, barren, I still had some cheese in my hand, the rat
bit my finger—it’s your louse anyway, just replaced by a cage.
Close your eyes, picture this: a film, where epic moments
are left, cut on the dying room floor, the horrendous ones played
background music over the scene, when I threw your bag, as you packed,
something broke inside, important stuff, which held me together
tonight, I know little birds fly nocturnally, only I can’t lift my own
un-winged future, unwritten on a broadside, which said, “forever”.
