The World Is Not Flat
Rumour spread like fleas:
the world is not flat.
Such rejoicing in the streets!
Clouds parting to brilliant blue
women twirling long skirts
and the music—
children were at a fever pitch
and grog flowed freely.
The party of all parties.
Or
A pack of wolves descended
from the upper regions, slowly
keeping low to the ground
blood coating their mouths
though they’d been starving
most of winter.
How do you suppose it really went down
he asks his little dog.
