I Can’t Breathe

I see the storm clouds, dark and grey,
I can’t breathe.
I feel the cuffs binding my wrists,
I can’t breathe.
I hear shouts front the men,
I can’t breathe.
I feel the knee in my neck,
I can’t breathe.
I feel the shortness of my breath,
I can’t breathe.
God please, I don’t want to die—
I can’t breathe.

Latosha Brown: “I am 29 years married with 3 kids and 3 grandkids. I live in Fort Smith, AR where I am a sophomore at the local university. I am BlPOC and I am concerned with all of the racial tensions and injustices in the world at this time in response to the George Floyd murder. This poem was my take on how everything seems. I love reading, writing, playing with my grandkids and watching anime. I am an amateur storyteller and love anything of the supernatural origin.”
