The Skeptical Heart

Well the snow is but a whisper
On the hay
And the sun
It goes down so quietly
again today
Well they tell me
that tomorrow is Spring
If only I believed in such things
If only
I believed in such things

While I wait on the warmth of south winds
To blow
I dance with my love
In the snow
Well they tell me
that tomorrow is Spring
If only I believed in such things
If only
I believed in such things

Well I don’t believe in such things
As summer and Fall
And Spring
I know that the Winter brings cold
I know that these bones
Have grown old
And if ever I had any doubt
It’s quieted with three words
From your mouth
I never once believed in loves peace
Till I heard these words that
you speak

Well the snow is but a whisper
On the grass
And I know this cold it shall pass
Well they tell me
that tomorrow is Spring
If only I believed in such things
If only I believed in such things

The heather will return to these hills
I’ll say a prayer that it will
From the warmth that the sun
It will bring
If only I believed in such things
If only I believed in such things

Well the birds all flew south
Long ago
Nothing flies straighter
Than the truth
They’ll be returning
We know
For now I’ll wrap my weary arms
Around your youth
They tell me that tomorrow is Spring
Your love
It makes me want to believe
in these things
