Following the Storm

In the early autumn of our lives
we have learned to enjoy rhythm
of rain, cadence of thunder, lyrical
hissing of wind. Watch, as colors of
garden grow bright, sky clears,
sunbeams surge through pallid
clouds.

In the quiet nothingness following
the storm, we listen to the song of
cicadas, watch bees dance atop heads
of clover, Black-eyed Susans sway
in now gentle wind.

As the moon fills the starless sky,
we embrace in this place where
we have found each other,
diminished lives left behind,
darkened walls. Shimmer of morning
light draws us near.
