A day in a doctor’s life

Then they were just arriving…
Curfewed summer hibernation.
Holed in with boards, cookbooks, virtual networks.
World tentacled inwards,
to grasp the outward.
Autumn may wither the deciduous diseases.

Now, in the midst of tumultuous torrents…
Callous citizens precipitate a deluge,
Several down, many more still.
Laboring doctors, pregnant with lost battles-
suited, strain, gamble with lives-
their own kith and kin, among the sick.

Monsoons rain their gloomy reign.
The doctor’s father, stumbled
in the lavatory. Unconscious.
Cyanosed as the murky skies.
Crimson vessels now brown
like the autumn trees elsewhere.
Only the skeleton. Bare.
Lungs full of air, trapped in a bubble wrap-
Of no use to the living.
Death is indeed welcome.
Knell is now a son’s prayer…

None to ponder over the
Frontline domino cascade.
Conniving congress, with contrived census.
The unspoken melancholy of a doctor.
Meanwhile we are hemmed into this web;
Waiting…
Tick tock, tick tock…
