My Next Life

as the whiskers of a fox
as condensation on the lip of a glass
as a blade of pre-dawn grass
as a fable
as an eighth note
as alchemy

as something humble,
benign,
toothless and unambitious,
ignorant and satisfied

bring me back into a world
that has survived me
