Making Families

Some people were made
to make families,
not just babies.

Others were made
to unmake families,
leaving bits and pieces
of memories and tears.

What We Do

Sometimes the WORDS
take a long time to find YOU.
other times, YOU
cannot find the right words.

Then again, it really could be
about the timing.

You with pen/pencil in hand
or fingers on the keys
of the laptop with empty screen,
searching for the words
to shape the story
or trying to create a story
but lacking the words
when nothing seems to fit.

But we write because we must.
There are no options for us.
It is what we do.

It is the living among words,
moving the words into shapes,
mixing color, textures,
creating the patterns,

weaving seemingly unrelated words into
sentences that in turn become
something that is understood,

that shapes feelings
into something more,
creating anchors, islands,
places where a body can rest
or be propelled into spaces
and places familiar or unknown
depending on the mission,
writing because we must
because it is what we do.
