Nine years strong and flexing, located at The Good Life in downtown Boston, this monthly Friday night weekend jump-off serves Boston’s House Music lovers and dancers a divine fete in which Deep, Soulful, Afro-Latin House Music is celebrated by some seriously amazing people. Brought to our city by Enrique Florendo and Francesco Spagna, Jorge Galvez aka Cruzz, joined the DJ roster in 2006 as Enrique embarked on new adventures. DJs Franceso Spagna and Cruzz have continued to make The Good Life Great with this all inviting hell of a good time: UNITY.

DJ Cruzz was UNITY’s first guest DJ in 2006 during its opening night. Today, he mans the table as a Resident and develops visual designs, music programming and ideas to “keep our local house and underground scene alive even if it’s just on a monthly basis is more than I could ever ask for.”

For DJ Cruzz, musical inspiration came from his family. At home he was listening to his grandparent’s Charlestown era beats, 50’s & 60’s songs of his parent’s and his aunt’s and uncle’s Disco era grooves. Also, being Latino, Tango, Salsa, Latin Rock and others were a part of life. Witnessing a dorm party getting down to Raze’s Break for Love at the Art Institute in Fort Lauderdale inspired Cruzz to become a House DJ. “I remember listening to Break for Love during a dorm party and watching two Dudes freestyle like I’ve never seen before. I’m not talking breakdancing either. I’m talking a combination of moves while the song was playing. But here’s what got me, I saw their faces, the joy, simplicity, humbleness, happiness they got out of that one moment. I’ve only seen that type of joy in my family. Right there and then I knew House Music was what rejoiced my life and soul.”

UNITY has hosted an intense Guest DJ lineup including Joey Mazza, Jihad Muhammad and Gigi Testo to name a few. (Google is your friend! Searches shall render Hot Music!) Fortunately for our city, our Househeads and the dance we love, “on June 19, 2015 we celebrate 9 years of Unity at the same venue that started several ‘house music’ nights, of which Unity, 9 years later, is still running strong. I guess we’re doing something right, wouldn’t you agree? That night will feature Shelter Records DJ/Producer Adam Rios. We surely hope to see everyone on the dance floor celebrating with us.” Yes! Congratulations Men!

DJ Cruzz states “working and playing with Francesco has proven nicely” as not only have they connected with a similarity of sound and music selection, but also with their view of where they’ve wanted to take UNITY year after year. DJ Cruzz also shouts out “the ongoing support from both our die-hard Boston House-Heads and the venue itself The Goodlife” as being a great part of Unity’s success. “At times I think if you put every local event house-heads have ever attended, it equals to only one at the end–UNITY.” Truly. The diversity in sound at UNITY proves it’s all there. We’re all there. Circa 2006.

Join Residents DJ Francesco Spagna and DJ Cruzz tomorrow, Friday, May 22 at The Good Life for their monthly good time UNITY. Even more special, joining them will be local Guest DJ, MIZONT! A true class act and quiet storm! Then again on Friday, June 19 as they celebrate 9 years of unifying all peoples under one House. We do hope to see you there!
