I was mentored by people who had no one to rely on
People who were mentored by people who had no one to rely on
Over and over to the first one’s first breath
What modern civilization looks down on as
An Attitude of Air
Is just tradition
Traditional navigation through
I was mentored by people civilization looked down on
People who had no one
To rely on
I was mentored to attain through pain and feel none
Expect Nothing from everyone
Not that we weren’t surrounded by sharers
But our neighbors too had themselves only
To rely on
I was mentored by people who took their last and made it last and bartered through canals of need
I was mentored by people who lived by the sea
Who dreamed for free because civilization’s reality was made for out of their reach
Mentored by people who knew if not by their sweat nothing they would get so they drank sweat, slept in sweat, fed others in sweat and chose to remind generations to never forget
There is no one to rely on except avoiding debt
I was told the other side of a dollar lent has an interest the lender doesn’t let the borrower forget
So my mentors always said
Forget it
They never asked for they had seen the request turn the fortunate into something mean
Yes but you do this for me on your knees
Yes but now I own your sleep
Yes but now you leave here your dignity
I was mentored by people who hustled instead
The most illegal was backroom card readings and undeground number runners
Mentored by angelic criminals and church labeled sinners
As defined by civilization’s winners enjoying their dinners ignoring the lounge singers harassed to bring home a jar of tips and make that coin last
In the stomachs of children
My reality has been created with the ethic of the terrified, the abused, the addicted, the proud, the fighters, the survivors
A lineage the world deems cold
A lineage the world deems independent
Too independent
A lineage the world challenges for it needs to be needed
I was mentored by a people who manifested what they needed
Seeded and perspired through beatings and threats
Gave their faith to their mentors’ sweat
Remembering We Are Here because they chose to not forget the first one’s first breath and the Love it continuously begets
Generation after generation
A love for survival A love for knowing
Without entitlement to civilization’s comfort you unlock your personal society’s Dynasty.
