With where this world is going, gun control feels more like a band aid. Sure you’ll deter some would-be assailants, but at the end of the day we’re only taking away the most convenient method one has to commit such atrocities.

One who lets evil take the wheel will always find a way to hurt others. No amount of gun control will remedy evil, but no amount of guns even for the sake of protection will eliminate evil. We sent a fuck ton of men with guns to the Middle East to root out one evil only for a new one to pop up, like taking the head off the hydra another one will grow.

There’s a quote that plays at the beginning of one of my favorite JRPGs (Tales Of Phantasia):/em>

“Truly if there is an evil in this world, it lies within the heart of mankind”.

People choose to do evil, and that choice becomes all the easier when life drags you through the mud. It’s easy to fight hardships and malice with evil, it’s easy to drive out darkness with darkness, it’s easy to justify evil as a solution to combat evil. At the end of the day we’re just left in the same shithole we dug ourselves.

Evil, like good, is a tiny seed that continues to grow based on how one responds to the trails in their life. The more you water it, the more it grows and takes shape until we become the very thing we fed ourselves. Evil is a choice much like good. I often hear people ask “where God was” every time such atrocities happen. It’s real simple, we shut him out.

The greatest and sometimes the most dangerous gift God gave mankind was free will. He could’ve easily made us all slaves to his will, but he loves us so much he gives us the freedom to choose to do good or to choose evil. Unfortunately, some people choose evil and there ain’t a fucking thing we can do to stop them.

How we respond to evil is what shapes us. We can continue to further the same bitter cycle where we fight evil with evil, or we can choose to do good. Good can be consoling those who are grieving, it can be showing mercy to those who hurt us (this doesn’t mean condone their actions so don’t get it twisted). It can be thoughts and prayers (especially prayer), even though that sort of thing is frowned upon in 2018.

Gun control won’t do much because we live in a culture that glorifies evil and frowns upon love as a solution to combating evil. Having more guns even for our protection won’t do much.

I’m not sorry if you were hoping for a post that panders to either side of this. I’ve seen this movie too many times, and it has the same predictable ending, so maybe it’s time to try something new.

That something new begins with loving one another regardless of differences in opinion, religious views and, political views; it begins with not mistaking hate speech for free speech or, vice versa; it means letting every walk of life no matter the color, ability, sex, orientation, etc that they are loved.

Y’all can chose what you want; you can say “this guy is fucking stupid,” and disregard this all together. That is your choice. The ability to make that choice and many of the other choices you will make in this lifetime is a gift given to you from God that you should never take for granted.

I have and will always choose love, because it’s the only thing that is going to drive out the evil in this world. Tthis isn’t me saying you can’t defend yourself. I’m just saying that more guns than we already have won’t help and, eliminating those said guns won’t eliminate an ideal that this world drives people to accept.

Stay classy…
