Stone Soup Servings is a regular series for Oddball Magazine that features upcoming performers at Stone Soup Poetry, the long-running spoken word venue in the Boston area that has recently partnered with Oddball Magazine. Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m.
On March 10, we ‘re happy to host the long-awaited return of poet, memoir writer and publisher Mignon Ariel King, who is celebrating the release of her new book, What Good’s a View of the Charles…? from ALL CAPS PUBLISHING. You can order the book now, but we recommend reading a sample from the book then getting it signed by her this Monday.
double corn
what I look for in a man
is need,
but friends and nosey-ass
bare acquaintances
who ask
why I’m single “at my age”
don’t really
get subtle answers that
smell like a bowl of freshly-made
corn chowder
with double-cornbread heaped
high on a small china plate.
so I’ve
given up explaining,
devote my only real
man-thinking hours
to a fantastic fantasy
who is totally alpha
but marketing out in the cold-
bastard world of deals
for a woman who still makes
chowder from scratch.
