Stone Soup Servings is a regular series for Oddball Magazine that features upcoming performers at Stone Soup Poetry, the long-running spoken word venue in the Boston area that has recently partnered with Oddball Magazine. Stone Soup Poetry meets from 8-10 p.m. every Monday at the Out of The Blue Art Gallery at 106 Prospect Street with an open mike sign-up at 7:30 p.m.

This Monday, Stone Soup will feature former Poet Populist of Cambridge Jean Dany Joachim, who will be introduced from fellow former Populist Toni Bee. Two of Joachim’s poems follow below.

Curfew

Before dawn
The carnage started,
My city fainted.
Heavy machines sneaked in
And seized the roads,
The stones howled,
And
The houses,
The beds,
The windows,
The tables,
Shivered-shivered,
And shrank-shrank,
And dark came again.
The air stopped breathing.

Catastrophes & Redemption

So much happened
And so fast that season
Plunged upon us.
Pledges got broken
From all sides:
East, West, North & South
The weather lost its track
Earth trembled
The sea growled
Water slaughtered
Warfare came & persisted
Hope faltered, and
Peace has gone astray
So & so fast
So much happened
On the course to redemption…
