Athena

I wanna flow easy like rainfall in July
like gypsy moths retreating as the moon captures their eyes
receiving horses in my path
inviting me to ride the land and not look back

I’m gonna drift freely let the universe be my sail
dancing between the galaxies sea of stars laced through my hair
she wields powerful wisdom
she reveals the secrets of the sun

I’m your Venus, I’m your deity
come and lie within this feminine energy
embrace your celestial origin
synthesize the light of your soul within
sentient lover I’m an ancestress
alchemizing thoughts like a wild shamaness
priestess of love with the wisdom of the mystics
universal truth now I know you can feel this

Athena, golden fire of the sun
Athena, burning bright for everyone
Athena, let me hold your hand in mine
Athena, together we rise

I’m your goddess of love, your alpha and omega
offering what you need at the starlight bodega
original pure in form from sea to sunshine

Poet/Photographer Jennifer Matthews’ poetry has been published in Nepal by Pen Himalaya and locally by the Wilderness Retreat Writers Organization, Midway Journal, The Somerville Times, Ibbetson Street Press and Boston Girl Guide. Jennifer was nominated for a poetry award by the Cambridge Arts Council for her book of Poetry Fairy Tales and Misdemeanors.
