I thought that you were going to fall out the window
That’s why I stood up
To capture the thought in the reflection of your glasses
Before my myopia set in

The wah-wah pedal goes wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah
I tried to silence my sigh
Did you hear me?
My mouth was an open O

At the grocery store we picked up a sense of humor
A case of obligation, two pints of satisfaction
A dozen ripened sorrows, and roughly a pound of rainbow steak
The cashier butchered the rainbow herself from her flank

At school the next day, our teacher asked us to turn in our skeletal system
She then passed out a pop quiz, which we used as a new internal structure
But it wasn’t as supportive as our bones
And multiple choices kept leaking into our other organs
