“Before the Darkness” © Digby Beaumont

Through towering trees a forest
bent for my satisfaction:
The gods of good and evil
could not compete with
the languorous god
who, with beckoning finger,
crouched around every bend.
Entrapment the game
but I was too clever
for fickle fingers
silly smiles and transitory gifts:
grapes in a pile that glistened.
