A rainy night in Boston.
distant relatives
sitting side by side
on sticky plastic seats
whose ridges formed
labyrinth patterns
along our thighs.
As the steam
evaporated over Sanka,
I peered through grey windows
at storm clouds
in the distance,
the way we were planning to go.
The opposite direction had clear skies.
I paused for a minute,
then handed my umbrella
to the old man waiting by the door.
I wouldn’t be needing it anymore.
