Angry Bird Syndrome

Yes folks, let’s define one another
By outward appearance
By inconclusive evidence
By the word on the street.
My feathers ruffled, teased up
So I look ridiculous,
a disturbed chicken staring at the camera
Meme on Facebook
A barnyard bird
An angry one at that,
Victim of a newly coined syndrome.
I was abused
By a prankster,
Deviant with a comb, hairspray and blow dryer
Fluffed silly for his amusement.
I’m not crazy.
Stop laughing.
This is not me.

Steve Bell has been writing poetry for over 20 years. He was an insurance agent for 31 years while simultaneously engaging in community activism; public education, mental health care, and disability rights. The inspiration for his poems comes from his faith in God, family struggles with mental illness, social justice issues and at times a warped sense of humor. He holds a BA in Political Science and lives with his wife Gina in Colorado Springs.

Glenn Bowie is a published poet, lyricist and photographer from the Boston area. He also owns and operates an elevator company that supplies custom-built elevators for clients from New England to Hollywood. Author of two poetry and photograph collections (Under the Weight of Whispers and Into the Thorns and Honey) on Big Table Publishing, he donates all profits from his books to various charities for the homeless and local animal shelters.
