don’t ask me to explain
why I am how I am, and
I won’t ask the same of you

something so simple yet
you don’t understand – it’s as easy as
holding my lover’s hand

trapped in a cage that
you created, with walls that
shouldn’t exist

a glare, a kick,
defamation! evolution
you resist

don’t gimme your religion,
with a book behind
which to hide

whether I am right
or wrong it’s not up to
you to decide

I’ve knocked down all
the barriers, the door is
open, the labels defaced

you may seek to defend
the status quo but
I shall never be disgraced.

Roméo Desmarais III performs pOeTrEe under the moniker RoMeO-HoMeO ô£ tHę MåRtïÃñS, but his bff calls him >SàáTêL_L¡T€<. “I find referring to myself in the third person weirdly impersonal and that punctuation/capitalization is often redundant, which has nothing to do with me being rarely punctual/very anti-capitalism. London Canada is HomoSweetHomo. I am proudly GAY/2Spirited/Queer, Francophone, and Indigenous/Métis (in no order of importance). I’ve been writing “for reals” for over 30 years, and I'm highly addicted to my bf, backgammon, caffeine, conversation, alliteration, and run-on-sentences.”

Eric N. Peterson is from Atlanta, Ga. He’s been drawing cartoons all his life. He leans towards the absurd, imaginative, and the surreal, as that’s where all the flavor is.
