The Skull Weeps Blood

Her body lies in state
on a bed of roses
heedless of the pricking thorns.

Skin peeled like a grape
to reveal the flesh beneath.
Sleek muscles cradling bone.

White bud stained red
clutched in twisted fingers
long past pleading.

And gracing all,
ivory skull flayed bare
with blood like tears
trailing lifeless cheek.
