Poem by Patricia Gomes

Morning After Debates

Pre-dawn captivates.
Holds us in place,
coffee at the ready.
A quiet moment
to disseminate
the poli-speak
and pregnant stammers
of presidential hopefuls.
A thoughtful pause
to prepare
for the disagreements
soon to follow,
for we are all just
grackles and blue jays
warring over seeds
at the feeder.
