the afternoon of my life
began on our honeymoon
where you laid, legs open
while I sobbed at the edge
of the hotel bed, unable
to moan into the death
of my youth

my new wife, the grim reaper,
waited patiently for me
to take her cold hand
in the dark – the same way
she waited for me to come
home those late nights, crawling
into her arms, wreaking of trouble

so, there I was, foreskin cut
twenty years too late, bleeding
out the final drops
onto a shag carpet
turning to her halfway
asking shyly if she could
please get me a towel
