Voices

Every morning their voices reach me from the field,
but they never hear me recite my Spanish verses

They are shredded supernovas,
and their bare necks shine with sweat
I listen as they howl in unknown syllables
and arrange their movements
with a precision of grave astronomers.

They will fade at noon,
disappear
until a soft explosion of stars
will alarm the indigo sky.
