Living With Dead Poets

Endure, endure, endure,
ripeness is all
until the rotting flesh
splits open
and allows death to enter
the mystery
within.

Endure, endure, endure
even though
over-ripe,
sell by date well past
waiting

longing
for a space filled
with birdsong
and beauty

fading
flesh
still plump
ripe
but not rotten

fading
into an easeful death.

 

Lynn White lives in north Wales. Her work is influenced by issues of social justice and events, places and people she has known or imagined.
