The Devil at the End

Only come to this lovely window,
tuned always to a thousand hours
under metal drone of the evening
fan. And in this interior of heat
flooding back to mouth, I kept to
diurnal rounds with the devil at
the everlasting, leaning left on his
hard stare, bartered breaths and
bones for spurs and wings beating
against these fragile walls. Then
I crested his base wind’s spine like
a welcome, he set down the evening
Absolut, and coffined me as wayward
ship, where even the lightest
salve scraped our kiss like a beard.
