Auras of the Afternoon

Roaring blood vessels the morning’s story,
which till then had dragged itself,
like any weary Wednesday, from 8:00 -11:00
through rampant droves and tired streets.

I didn’t anticipate the meet,
rather the decision was random and chance had,
landed me an appointment
with instruments of inquisition.

I sat stolidly and dialed,
back the curiosity as much as I could bear,
the specialist’s supportive chair, below the beams
of light, a rampaging exam.

It was Vegas dilated, my visions slammed,
“1 or 2”, “3 or 4”, the lenses flickered and slid
in and out of the cat-flap of time,
and knowledge rose like schools

“You know much about the eye” with purpose!
It was over, and the migraines of my early years
warned and scorned in waves –
glare-ridden days foam forth.

Slate grey skies above an empty beach.
Upstanding again, feet in rivulets.
Racks and racks of glasses passed me…within
And hour, how much shifts within an hour?

Jacob Dunstan: “I am a freelance writer and actor based in Sydney and I absolutely love going for a wanders and runs. I draw inspiration from fleeting, random moments and I spend a great deal of time on trains. I’ve worked many summers at a camp abroad; those midafternoon hours spent in cabins served as golden moments for reflection. I have been a deep admirer of poetry for years, and my love of the artform was consolidated at Uni. Big movie buff right here too. I love the word ‘elan.'”
