Ritual

I’ve got blood on my hands.
Not because I’ve killed someone,
But because I may kill someone.
Except it’s on the back of my hands,
Not the palms,
Where the lather seeps from the cracks
Erupting from my desiccated skin,
Cracking like tines of a comb
Causing static shocks
Singeing my hands with pain
As I count myself lucky.
