Waking eyes
To sunshine
For the first time

The sound of you
In the delivery room
Your little hands
Your little feet

You are
Beautiful

beautiful
Amelia

ii

(It’s ok for a poet
To be speechless
When there are no need for words
To express joy
A smile or a tear will do)

iii

I like when poetry is about
playing with words
Changing the rhyme scheme
Dropping science with
Sentence fragments
Today is not that day.
And I am ok with that.

iv

So much joy
For my brother

I have always looked up to him
I try to follow his foot steps
Always have
And always will

Proudly

v

On the train
Chuck sneakers
Suit and
Tie
Motown speaking
Through the speakers
Adding sunshine to
This place

Thinking

Slow
but content.
Completely
Content.

vi

Today is a special day
I don’t need a rhyme scheme

To simply
Be happy
