I broke my back
in baskets
driving with
a splendid headache.
To the background goes
the forward motion.
My car drives off
the interstate
into a patch
of grass
near a
murky lake.
Should I test fate
like it tests me?
Broken in an ambulance,
a submarine?
A plane, a train,
an Etch A sketch.
Draw me a destiny
in this stretcher.
Next to a
lecherous lake
I find myself
praying to a God
that lacks all sense
yet I remain,
a sticky substance
under earths shoe.
