Once one of my then teen age grandsons
asked me what I thought about climate
change and I said, “it will be the central
issue of your lifetime” which proved way

Too much for his mother who then said
“that is a terrible thing to say” except
now I would add, “if we don’t blow our-
selves up first,” two regional wars now

Gone ever so global with Russia&China
classic continental civilizations rivals
pushed into each others arms uniting
Eurasia’s vast distances over mountains

Ranges by Empire of Bases archipelago
military madness clinching together, oh
what? they have been trying to divide &
play off against each other for centuries.

 

James Van Looy has been a fixture in Boston’s poetry venues since the 1970s. He is a member of Cosmic Spelunker Theater and has run poetry workshops for Boston area homeless people at Pine Street Inn and St. Francis House since 1992.
