Her life as a writer began when she learned the basics
in nursery school: the alphabet & printing.
Her parents and teachers applauded when she was
able to place the oversized letters in an order that produced her name.
But she wanted more.
In first grade she began writing books of stories with bright crayola colors
So many titles:
Teaching the Dog to Eat Soup with a Spoon,
Chocolate is Good and Spinach is Bad,
Older Sisters Are Mean and Hit You,
and Fighting Older Sisters from Outer Space.
She began writing poetry in high school.
The first assignment, write a poem inspired by a photograph of painting
She chose a photograph of a painting of a woman on a trapeze with no net.
It was only after she had written billions of poems
that she realized
she had become the woman on the trapeze
