Never enough time
to catch a breath.
Always in motion,
pushing past naysayers.
Following the dreams,
bypassing and challenging
the barriers imposed
by self and others.
Wanting to understand
more not less.
Marching for justice
for everybody.
Seeking truth in face
of continuous injustice.
Endlessly questioning
and testing boundaries.
Offering prayers for those
you know and like
as well as the folks
who seem committed
to being annoying fools
every hour of every day.
Speaking to God,
hoping to be heard.
Wondering if
your Guardian Angel
has their own
Guardian Angel.
Imagining Mom’s Mabley
and Red Foxx sharing
jokes and stories
every night in heaven,
which is permissible because
they always spoke the truth.
Can I get
an Amen?
