Mornings and early afternoons
Are reserved for tea with chocolates,
sugar, candy, cake.
By late day I declare a truce.
My toys and I decide we need to rest;
Playtime can wear a soul out
But pride undermines logic.
I know I want to rest
But can not admit surrender.
It is a matter pride driven
By the five year old’s need
To prove that naps are for ‘babies.”
But naps are for babies and the adults
Who try to keep up with 5 year olds
Who just don’t like to take naps.
