It was a while ago. I was sitting on the bus, not doing anything, open to everything. Then I overheard a conversation between a father and son sitting in the seats behind me.

I never looked back, but from the sound of his voice, I imagined he was about 5 or 6 years old. Father and son were talking about Mother’s Day and the card the boy would give his mother.

The child read a card out loud. “Dear Mom, I love you so much. I promise to clean my room, eat vegetables, and say thank you and…”

The child stopped reading and with a concerned voice said to his father “That’s a lot to do…” followed by sigh.

His father consoled him. “Look you don’t have to do for the day, just a little while, a couple hours.”

There was a pause and another sigh, then a very tentative “OK.”

The End!
