Professionals vs the Kids

 

She was not what they expected.
She was calm.

She would not hurl insults
or seek their pity.

She wouldn’t engage
in guilt tripping.

She didn’t fidget
or attempt response

to their silly strategies
to draw her into conversation.

She didn’t want what they offered.
She watched and recalled

an old commercial she reworked
for just such occasions.

She smiled and thought:
Silly social workers. Tricks are for kids!
