Thank God for being God
and not holding us to the impossibly high or low standards
we set for ourselves and others.

Thank God for being God
and not being the omniscient being, who was rumored
to have given nuns and priests the power to identify
and “redirect” (aka punish) potential sinners
in elementary school classrooms and school yards.

Thank God for being God
and not being that being
waiting for “gotcha” moments
to identify and deport sinners according
to human standards determined by
a self serving, whimsical wish list
dictated by a relative, stranger, neighbor,
coworker, boss, employee etc.

Thank God for being God
who, contrary to popular misconception,
never employed or endorsed the use of hit squads,
lynch mobs, genocide, gun violence, prejudice etc.
as an earthbound corrective action.

Thank God for being God,
a force so strong as to provide us with endless choices
and in respecting our choices, allows us the opportunity
to choose our mortal and eternal fates.

Now, look up to the heavens
and sigh,
thanking God for being God.
