They gather with candles and signs,
Protesting a war, taxes, pollution or some “ism”.
Watch them find their protester ‘personae’
Inhaling/exhaling
chanting “HELL NO we won’t go!”
Eventually the chants are transformed into
casual catch-up conversations about
family, work and body aches.
Are they marching or just jogging in place?
Janet Cormier is a painter, writes prose and poetry, and performs comedy. JC prefers different and original over pretty. She loves collecting stuff, but cleaning not so much. Janet also talks to strangers… a lot. Her column appears weekly in Oddball Magazine.
This is a good poem as long as you can decipher all the hiden meanings. I’m pretty good at that, but not everyone is. Or am I just totally off base?
I didn’t think the meaning was hidden. I think of my poetry, paintings and comedy as snapshots of life. But then people see what they can or want to see.
