Those who gave their iives: Ahmaud Arbery, Sandra Bland Michael Brown

You watched loved ones walk out the door,
eager to embrace the day, take on the world.
Those goodbyes were never intended to be forevers.
The police always seemed to be indifferent.
At best, they passively investigate
the circumstances and details
surrounding unexpected disappearances, departures.
Facts, details, hell inquiries that require
an investment of intellect and care
are dismissed, or more likey reserved for
others, not people like you or me.
Investigative processes and scientific inquiry
are abandoned, often put aside for explanations
based in fiction, buried in stereotypes.
The truth is what it is according to
whatever,whomever, whenever.
We are more likely to die of mistaken identity,
if not blatant lies or inconvenience.
Justice is blinded by bigotry, laziness.
Reasonable doubt is compromised by priviledge.
The value of human life is decided by race, age,
gender, wealth, connections.
And those who fail to investigate are guilty
of treachery, guided by ego and greed,
forever committed to replacing
the Ten Commandments
with smoke and mirrors.
