Fireworks
on the eve of July 4th.

My first reaction
recalled firecrackers

going off after
the murder of George Floyd.

I wished it rained then
like it is raining now.

I wish Chauvin felt remorse
for his actions,

He still probably
doesn’t understand

what he did was
an abomination

against God
and humanity.

He probably still thinks
he was doing a service

to his people
and country.

And I imagine
there are too many

who will toast Chauvin forever
behind closed doors.
