“Ice Pancakes” © Bonnie Matthews Brock

nearly full moon
framed in the window
declining to be photographed

~~~
only once have I ever
bought a one-way ticket
I am home
~~~

I love
being the same age
as Doctor Who

~~~
when the sunshine
doesn’t match my mood
I think of rain
~~~

no one
in the middle seat
bliss

~~~
I was so alone
those first grief days
like I was contagious
~~~

sun shines
through the rain
hope springs, even now

~~~
I fit my steps
into your footprints
you are my bridge
~~~

rough water
before me, behind me
gripping tight to my oar

~~~
soft
as a whisper
hope alighting
Jennifer Gurney lives in Colorado where she teaches, paints, writes and hikes, not in that order. She has written all her life, but at 62, she’s finally lived enough life, and suffered enough loss, to write like a poet. She collects heart-shaped rocks and interesting words. Live music, wishing on stars and learning new things are some of her favorite pastimes.
Bonnie Matthews Brock is a Florida-based photographer, and retired school psychologist. She loves hiking the urban and woodland trails of “anywhere” (and pausing often to shoot photos) with her very patient husband (and often collaborator), Ted. Her images have been featured on the covers of magazines such as Ibbetson Street, Wild Roof Journal, Poesy Magazine, Humana Obscura, and Arkansas Review; as well as on the pages of publications such as Oddball Magazine, Ember Chasm Review, Beyond Words Literary Magazine, Beaver Magazine, and Lateral. Her works are archived at institutions such as Poets House NYC, Brown University, and Harvard University. You can view more of Bonnie’s images on Instagram @bonniematthewsbrock.
