Sunken Abyss Nurtures Blooms

Frozen blooms entombed alive
layers below the surface
unseen by pedestrians
out of sight
buds of optimism
lucky, oxygen deprivation
isn’t a problem

newborn baptized in dew
I sit
wait
trapped in a time capsule
uncertainty looms

planted in place
motion limited
wrapped ivy tangles
refuse to straighten
cozy sarcophagus
tulip neighbors nourish despair

try to set myself on fire
from within my mind
youth scorched instead
devise another plan

throbbing from beneath
sweet sun, giver of life
stretch to greater depths, greet me

alas, warmth and light hopscotch
footsteps above
awaken neighborhood pests
burrows and hisses do no favors

forgotten seeds in my DNA
make my body rumble and crack
spontaneous self-combustion, take two
for the win, perhaps
or not

stretches break new ground
earth, tainted with my emergence
sun sparks disinfect my foul mood
open-air grants space
rolling landscape entertains

flourish
shapes
colors
vibrant tapestry

battlefield, always a garden
harvesting the frontlines
in a private oasis
flowering, I bring beauty—
seen
admired even

tulip.
