Alarm

Tired of being tired, soldiering on in this achy vacuum.
Love TV, sick of watching.
Love sports, numb to games.
Love cooking, seared by the heat.
Love eating, hard to chew.
Love writing, can barely finish a sentence.
Such a drag, so much soul haggling.
Maybe a hip zipline vacation would abate the lip biting.
Or fruits, vegetables, whole wheat, exercise could beat back the bad flips
and existential shits.
A warm room, dim lights, calm the fatigue.
Though there’s nothing new under the sun, son, or the moon
in the middle of an eclipse.
Flights of eloquence are a dry sandwich
while spires are mired in fog.
Rest is best, if you can find it,
away from that slamming alarm clock.

Chris Callard lives in Long Beach, CA. Worked in government as a career but did lots of theater as a youngster. His poems and short fiction have been surprisingly accepted in a variety of online and printed publications. But who cares? And he, of course, has a novel on Kindle. It’s called Fakes and Phonies. It’s only $2.99. Great stocking stuffer.

Glenn Bowie is a published poet, lyricist, and photographer from the Boston area. He also owns and operates an elevator company that supplies custom-built elevators for clients from New England to Hollywood. Author of two poetry and photograph collections (Under the Weight of Whispers and Into the Thorns and Honey) on Big Table Publishing, he donates all profits from his books to various charities for the homeless and local animal shelters.
