Even if we count the three poems below as a single entry, it’s clear that Love is the dominant theme of the week rather than Massacre. Fight’s over, but stay tuned for one more post later today anyway, and enjoy Howie’s work below.

The Oracular Buzz of Foraging Flies

I was invited to a wedding in a storefront. The bride wore long sleeves to hide the tattoos – or tracks – on her arms. The groom’s parents were in one corner with the marriage officer, the bride’s in another with the whisky. I think about that every day. “Keep moving, keep moving,” the cops ordered the gawkers clogging the sidewalk. Some perished before they ever could. Now I can’t sleep for fear of drowning in bed. It’s simple arithmetic, like an erection that lasts longer than four hours.

Sick at Heart

I don’t see how hats
or headgear would be involved.
People simply empty out.
The technical term is cardiomyopathy.

It’s sort of what happens
when we don’t make love
in more than a week – too busy

like a little country store
that sells groceries & ammo.

Look It Up

A list.
The 10 most frequently

looked up words

in the past 24 hours.

Love is No. 3.
No. 4 is irony.
