If music is the medicine, dance is the surgical procedure. Release Your Dance has for over three years delivered good times in the cities of Cambridge, Boston, Jamaica Plain and now in the heart of Roxbury at The Lab in Fort Hill.

The Lab “serves as a platform for Art, Music, Innovation and Commerce …a space, in Roxbury, dedicated to be a resource for progressive expression.” It welcomed Release Your Dance in the Winter of 2015 and IndepenDANCE serves as a welcoming into Summer musically.

IndepenDANCE was declared by DJ Savuth on July 4, 2013 when the Middle East Corner in Cambridge served as Release Your Dance’s floor. Both Resident DJ Savuth and Chris Grant dropped beats that night to an unforgettable room of freedom loving partiers! Now in 2015, IndepenDANCE celebrates its reality with DJ’s Chris Grant and Savuth again, this time serving Old School House, Hip Hop, Disco, Freestyle, R&B and Reggae!

These are your Conductors, DJ Savuth and DJ Chris Grant!

DJ Chris Grant was inspired musically by 70’s Funk, Soul and Disco, especially Cameo and Parliament Funkadelic. “Then in 1979 early Rap came in and ruled my world.” He “got the itch” to DJ in 1984 when his homeboy Derek let him get on his turntables. Chris got his own straight arm tables and mixer within a year and has been on “that black crack” ever since. #vinylrules

Chris Grant also created, is its resident DJ and mans Love & Nappiness, a celebration of positive Black culture and AfroArt that touch the Spirit, Soul, Intellect and Body in soulful House party environments.

DJ Savuth has been a dancer for over 20 years. His inspiration for music began with the House Music scene in his youth. “I am so fortunate to have been able to experience it all. To be in a room with everyone else feeling the same way you are feeling is the greatest joy you can have.” He decided he wanted to DJ when “one night, the DJ played a song and literally everyone on the dance floor started singing the song. It was so loud, it gave me goose bumps.” He co-founded Release Your Dance and has been its resident since its creation in 2012.

Appreciating The Lab for allowing people to let loose and dance, Release Your Dance’s IndepenDANCE returns this 4th of July 2015! 9:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m., The Lab, 15 Dudley Street, Roxbury. 18+ ~ alcohol-free / sober environment! Their sole mission: Let the music move you!
