In this new series for Oddball Magazine, cartoonist George Panagooulos and poet Chad Parenteau will take political cartooning and mix it with light (and not so light) politically charged verse inspired (sometimes loosely) by the illustration, sometimes maybe even in opposition to it. This will be an experimental venture with words and pictures, which might be intertwined more so in the future. Don’t forget to give us your feedback, both “likes” and “dislikes” (though there is no button for the latter).

In Sochi, Russia took gold with style.
To be fair, two were won from Vic Wild)
Not just that but protests
earned so many arrests
that in iron bars, Russia led by a mile.

Putin doesn’t want any hint
of violence, so free speech gets stint.
While justice gets juggled
journalists shy and struggle
to put words “Pussy Riot” in print.

Some people just call it crude,
that bare breasted protests are lewd.
Most might say it’s bold
given how it’s so cold.
But creep Putin just likes the nude.

It hardly seems fair, Russian says,
protesters getting harsh sentences
while Americans alive
under age thirty-five
are asking what a protest is.
