Seven Times 48: Explain the Poem

“I don’t understand your poem.
Could you explain it to me?”

Sure, I mean it’s not really a poem at all
That’s why it’s confusing you
You went into it expecting a poem but it’s really
A glass of water, an average sized glass of water
Sitting in the middle of a big circus tent
Waiting for a clown named Tode Strieb to dive head first into it
From the top of a 2 dimensional building burning up in a staged conflagration

“hmm”

Actually that’s wrong
What it actually was was a dandelion, yes,
A dandelion sitting quietly on a breezeless day
It’s head bursting in a transparent white with seed
Waiting for one last wind to blow over it and set it free
Remembering the first days of its life
When it was still the color of the sun

“That didn’t help at all”

Okay, it wasn’t that
It was a new puppy dog who hasn’t been housebroken yet
Eagerly awaiting his master to…

“Never mind, I’m sorry I asked”

  1. Andrew, this was helpful.

Reading poetry has always challenged me but now I understand that they also challenge the poet.

This could help save my marriage.
