Things Are Different
After Nate Pritts

Things are different       I should have done       things different       please       God can I go back
but it’s the same       waiting       back then       I asked you       about God       why
I asked why       things are different       & I never did       wait & I should have
I’m sorry       you knew       me &       things are different       & I didn’t       wait

you held things       my hand       in the dark       a different dark       holding       on waiting
too far removed       you said & I       I said wait       I am not done       we were different
to remove differences       I held the longing       for us       days were too dark       i’m not going back
I’m sorry       for different forevers       God never waited       you said       & removed my hand

I never did wait       I yelled       in the darkness       & pleasing God       removed you
forever &       forever       is too long       I wondered what if       forever is not       & God is not
the bracelet       my hand       & yours       back then       we didn’t long for       long forevers
you held it me the bracelet if you held my hand would things be different

I’m sorry       I yelled       but for too long       I wanted forever       & you       & a forever
you never knew       & so I yelled       and yelled       yelling       days of yelling       were longest
the feeling was different       dark       in not waiting       I was waiting       still       but I couldn’t go back
God it’s so different       things are different       I held on to       the bracelet & you       held on

I spent days       wandering       wondering       will I always       wonder
waiting       made no difference       & I wondered       if I went       back to forever
& I said sorry       or please       if forever       would be done       you said wait
I should have       & I’m sorry       God it’s too long remove       forever       & things are different

wait       I want it now       forever       you said wait       so I yelled       I yell still
it’s still you       same or different       the darkness       doesn’t hold       my hand       like you
now       for forever       or not forever       it can still be different       this thing is different
please hold me       God hold me       if not for long       I will wait       forever       wonder forever.

Lilly Purdy is a Boston native pursuing a BFA in creative writing at UNC Wilmington in North Carolina. Though interested in many genres, she primarily works in poetry and her writing focuses on combining experimental forms with themes of nature, femininity, and spirituality.

Thomas Riesner: “I was born in Leipzig,Germany in 1971 and I still live here today. Already in elementary school I often painted “abstract” instead of the given concrete drawing. I later retained this style or changed it to “abstract figuration ” I painted a lot at home, always without professional guidance. I didn’t have any specific role models. When I start a picture, I only have a certain idea, but often something completely different emerges. I would describe myself as an outsiderart artist.”
