The Last(ish) Word Presents: No Holds Barred

The media dropped every ball
by giving Trump coverage at all.
They said, let’s show Trump
give our ratings a bump.
And now our whole nation may fall.

Now Trump is at his last stand
still thinking we’re his to command,
but keeping petty
in burgs like Getty
might ensure the south won’t rise again.

Trmp says he’s the folk’s hero now
and Hillary and establishment cow
but when FBI
give GOP high fives
who’s the outsider maverick now?

It sticks right in Vince Mcmahon’s craw
that Trump vs. Hill’s such a draw.
He dreams of a stage
with the two in a cage
this evening on “Monday night Raw.”

There once was a judge named Scalia
who feared gays and female genita-lia
known for his fights
against basic rights
his soul’s finally gone and said “C-ya.”

Now anyone Republican
is moving as fast as they can
planning block after block
till the Justice spot’s locked
for one more elderly white man.

Jon Stewart will surely be missed
for years of Schadenfreuden bliss.
Call it biased shit
you have to admit
the left had eight years to be pissed.

Fox News attached him like a hun
but every time Jon Stewart won.
He just stayed sunny
being honest and funny
while Fox could not hack either one.

Jon Stewart told Fox to go screw,
but might tell Trevor Noah “Screw you too!
I had nine-eleven
you’ve got Donald Trump heaven.
It’s the easiest job that you’ll do!”

Good luck, Mr. Noah, as you go
right into next year’s pony show.
I won’t envy you
if it’s all Déjà vu:
Bush/Clinton minus BJ’s and blow.

A hobbying store in full force
got on the ol’ lobbying horse
to not be receptive
of contraceptive
to sell child craft kits as matter of course.

To allow contraceptives for you
would undo their own moral glue,
and their business plan pleases
the teachings of Jesus
’cause Jesus likes scrapbooking too.

Now radio mics sound more flat.
Mighty Casey’s no longer at bat.
I’ll get sentimental
after limericks up-tempo,
and we all know that Casey loved that.

An entire generation went “Zoinks!”
aa from our lives Casey was yoinked
Let’s take a breather
as it’s becoming much clearer
that no real word rhymes with “Zoinks.”

A little known fact for today:
Casey had once walked away
from cartoon racism
preemptively givin’
a middle finger to Michael Bay.

As dementia tore him, he was hid.
Now family may start making bids
for Casey’s money
so it would have been funny
if he cussed, “those damn meddling kids.”

Oddball Magazine took a little break due to the long weekend and the lack of a Stone Soup Poetry feature for there to be a Stone Soup Servings column. We will start off this week with a belated 4th of July illustration from George Panagopoulos. Look for the return of The Last(ish) Word later today.
